Many of these works are based upon the writings of H.P. Lovecraft. The imagery is Senecal's interpretation of the paintings done originally by Richard Upton Pickman, an artist invented by H.P. Lovecraft from the story, "Pickman's Model." The inspiration comes from the wonderful works of HPL as a result of searching for, but never finding compelling imagery relating to this topic.
As a result, Senecal decided to make it himself.
By diminishing, skewing, and limiting information about certain areas and by guiding the viewer through the selective inclusion and exclusion of details, the psychological tension of the workis heightened. Senecal's goal is to make visual works that do not merely illustrate characters from HPL stories, but which instead capture a sense of Lovecraft's work in their own right. These works are part of a growing series and are available as museum quality archival giclée on canvas and on watercolor paper.
Senecal is an accomplished digital artist and illustrator. You will see his work appearing among the comings and goings of Elder Sign Press, Chaosium, Pandora Magazine, Epilogue.net, The National Association of Photoshop Professionals, and within a myriad of international and independent art scenes, both physical and digital.
Senecal is a member of the artist groups "the614", and "BREED".
His fine art is represented by Agora Gallery, SoHo, New York and is found in private collections in Spain, Denmark, and throughout the United States.
Senecal likes zombies, opened a show for 80's hair band Warrant, and often prefers the methodical hum of machines to people. Senecal also likes OPi8.com and particularly, Alasdair Stuart's X-minute Theatre. All questions or inquiries should be directed to dsenecal@the614.com
